The Birth & Baby Community Cupboard

Free Baby Essentials for Fraser Coast Families
Supporting local parents with safe, high‑quality baby items.
No judgement, no cost, no questions asked.

What We Do.

Birth & Baby Community Cupboards Inc. is a Fraser Coast charity providing free, safe baby essentials to families in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.

We collect preloved baby items from local families, safety‑check and sanitise them, and redistribute them through:

  • Emergency care packs

  • Permanent Community Cupboard racks

  • Free market stalls

  • Frontline referrals

  • Self‑referring families

We support parents experiencing hardship, crisis, DFV, housing instability, or unexpected need — and any family who simply needs a hand.

How it works.

1. Local families donate baby items

Clothes, blankets, wraps, prams, nappies, feeding supplies and more.

2. We sort, safety‑check and sanitise everything

Every item is inspected and prepared with care.

3. We redistribute items through:

  • Emergency care packs

  • Permanent Community Cupboard racks

  • Free market stalls

  • Referral partners

  • Self‑referring families

Give what you can. Take what you need. No judgement. No cost.

How it started.

Birth & Baby Community Cupboards began with one mum, two little kids growing very quickly and a pile of hand‑me‑downs with nowhere to go.

I’m Katie. Mum first, and more recently, the founder Birth & Baby Community Cupboards.

I am lucky enough to have a constant flow of quality hand me downs — barely worn clothes, wraps, prams, feeding supplies for my babies.

But in our Fraser Coast community, there are mums deeply worried about affording baby basics, and how theyre going to keep their babies dressed. There are babies going without basics.

And at the same time there is no shortage of baby goods. The amount of baby items that have barely been used is monumental.

The issue is access and community. Because when you have a mum community, you don’t buy everything. You share. You pass things on. You say, “Don’t buy that — I’ve got one, you can have it.”

The Community Cupboard creates that community.

And it’s working. Mums are showing up in a big way - as I knew we would. I believe that as mums most of us have an inherent and deep rooted desire to support one another.

I believe in my soul that no mum should feel alone in the hardest season of her life. I believe that the weight of motherhood is made so much lighter with community connection.

Now, Community Cupboards is a growing Fraser Coast charity supporting families with dignity, compassion, and connection. It’s become my third baby and my biggest passion project.
